Centennial Children.
This collection of Centennial Children by Steylaerts Danielle, DANJEL,is the result of more than 1 year intensive photowork by the artist.
It’s her first sequence of thematic photos coming after earlier studiowork and outside photography. This collection represents a passion of the artist: children in a surrounding environment, in which these children fit and take part. The children look old fashioned in vintage clothes but standing or sitting in a recent and nowadays setting. Bringing together these two components she gets very strong and intrigating images.
The children take the full attention and are eye-catching highlighted, giving the images a strong dramatic content. In a sequence these pictures compose a symphonic concert of silence, demanding our attention without any noise of colours. These photos evoke honorable remembrance for Lewis Carroll common
treasures of early photography.
The stand-alone children express solitude but at the same time there is hope in their eyes and they look like they are expecting to have lucky years ahead.
When there are two children hand in hand in front of the camera they feel as friends, supporting each other and show more courage together.
Centennial Children represent a static performance before the photographer, who has the confidence of these models. Trust and be trusted.
The artist was not inspired by examples of other photographic creations, she invited herself into a new world in which these children participate and attract the attention with the result of synergic strenght in showing the full emotional content. Our reaction is one of questioning and looking profoundly into their eyes and searching for revealing answers, that may come as these photos
become part of individual collections where they can become timeless witnesses of a past, present and future that has been reality one century ago. Always with astonishing admiration.
